PROCEDURES FOR PHYSIOTHERAPISTS WISHING TO REGISTER IN TASMANIA

Graduates of Australian Physiotherapy Council (APC) accredited physiotherapy degree courses, are eligible to apply for registration as a physiotherapist in Tasmania. in the following ways.
Physiotherapists wishing to apply for registration in Tasmania must supply the following:
Completed “Application for Registration Under Mutual Recognition” form;
Original or Certified copy of current practicing certificate;
Certified copy of photo identification (ie: drivers license, passport);
Cheque or money order for $300 ($150 application fee plus $150 registration fee renewable annually.)
New Registration - Australian
New Graduates wishing to apply for registration in Tasmania must supply the following:
Completed “Application for Registration under the Physiotherapists Registration Act 1999” form;
Original or certified copy of degree or transcript of results;
Certified copy of photo identification (ie: drivers license, passport);
Two (2) character references in the required format (see guidelines & proforma);
Cheque or money order for $300.00 ($150 application fee plus $150 registration fee renewable annually.)
Physiotherapists previously registered in Tasmania and returning to work after absence etc;
Complete the “Application for Restoration to the Register” form;
Check with the Board as to what other documentation is required to be submitted. (This will depend on duration of absence etc).
Overseas physiotherapists wishing to apply for registration in Tasmania must first successfully complete the Australian Physiotherapy Council assessment process.
Once certification has been granted, the process for 'New Applicant' as detailed above may be followed in lodging an application for registration.
New Registration - New ZealandPhysiotherapists with full registration in New Zealand may apply for registration in Tasmania under the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 1997
Complete the “Application for Registration Under Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition” form;
Original or Certified copy of current New Zealand practicing certificate;
Certified copy of photo identification (ie: drivers license, passport);
Cheque or money order for $300.00 ($150 application fee plus $150 registration fee renewable annually.)
The Tasmanian Physiotherapists Registration Board offers limited registration to overseas trained physiotherapists for a period of up to 12 months under conditions including that of supervision, without the requirement to sit the full registration exam

Visiting Physiotherapists from other Australian States or Territories
The Physiotherapists Registration Act 1999 requires that all persons practising physiotherapy in Tasmania must be registered.
All physiotherapists visiting with sporting teams, or providing or attending lectures or conferences with hands-on components, etc. need to register with the Tasmanian Physiotherapists’ Registration Board.
The Board grants limited registration to visiting physiotherapists on receipt of a completed application form, provided that the physiotherapist would normally be eligible for registration in Tasmania. No registration fee is payable. The Board does not provide a Certificate of Registration however all applications will be acknowledged.
Limitations:
Physiotherapists travelling with visiting sporting team are only permitted to treat members of that team.
Physiotherapists attending a course or seminar are only permitted to apply treatments for the purposes of demonstrating or learning a technique.

This form of registration is not available for physiotherapists acting as locums or for other short term appointments where practitioners may be treating a number of patients.
Other States & Territory Boards visiting physiotherapists registration requirements
Information for Tasmanian registered physiotherapists travelling interstate with sporting teams or to attend a course or seminar.
New South Wales
The NSW Board requires the following information:
- Tasmanian Registration Number;
- if registration is current
- the name of the sports team you are travelling with;
- details of venue
- dates of travel
Once the Board has this information it is forwarded to a Board Member for approval. There is no charge. If you are visiting NSW regularly the Board suggests they register there under Mutual Recognition.
Victoria
If you will be there for up to 3 months you may apply for temporary registration ($50.00.) For longer periods you must register with the Victorian Board under Mutual Recognition ($150).
Queensland
You are not required to register with the Queensland Board provided you are only treating people within the team you are traveling with.
South Australia
You must apply in writing to the South Australian Board for temporary registration by letter stating the time frame in which you will be working and the name of the team you will be traveling with. The registration is restricted to treating team members.
West AustraliaYou must have either temporary or full unconditional registration - a fee applies.
Australian Capital Territory
You are not required to register in ACT provided you only treat the people within the team you are traveling with. There is no requirement to notify the Board.
Northern Territory
You are required to register under Mutual Recognition and will receive deemed registration for the period you are working. The fee is waived.
